Full post production and rig-shoot record on Dragonfly Film & TV’s pioneering new series for Channel 4. The 5 x 60 min series blends documentary and drama to follow a real judge, jury and barristers over the course of a murder trial created from a fictional case, offering unprecedented insight into the inner workings of a Crown Court and the dynamics of a jury room.
Colourist Nuala Sheridan graded the series on Digital Vision’s Nucoda. Working closely with directors Nick Holt and Kath Mattock, Sheridan graded the rig camera-shot courtroom scenes seamlessly with a scripted drama, creating atmospheres that complemented the intended appearance. She cooled down the warm wood tones in the court room, and used multiple layers to sympathetically enhance the images and create shapes to draw the viewers eye.
Nick Fry and Jules Woods mixed the audio using ProTools 12 on an Avid S6 console once tracklay and effects work has been completed by James Evans. In addition to making the interview microphones sound ‘off mic’, sync was taken from the location recordings and used as sound FX to ensure the intended authentic sound was portrayed for the court room scenes. To contrast with the drama scenes, detailed atmospheres and spot effects were added. The final drama scene was solely made up of intricate sound FX and next-room Altiverb reverb processing. At soft lock, Ediload was used to conform ProTools projects, allowing the mix to be signed off a day after picture lock.
Editors Tim Ellison and Tam Osman completed the online for the series on Avid Media Composer.
